Description

Artificial Intelligence (AI) involves the training of computers to mimic the processing power of the human brain. Its aim is for computers to perform targetted tasks that are typically done by human intelligence and discernemnt. This field of research takes advantage of the increase in data sizes and processing power of the latest technologies to find patterns at even a granular scale to improve predictive accuracy. AI tends to be a collective term for many areas of research that have dedicated faculties or companies developing them. These areas include, but are not limited to, machine learning, deep learning, natural-language processing, computer vision etc. Our staff are actively engaging with this type of research with widespread applications as well.

Description

Sports involve the physical exertion of skill and ability in a competitive environment. Information is then recorded to keep track of the performances involved (either at player or team level). This information is just as vast the types of sports played. To make sense of the data, researchers implement various methods to reach a goal. Depending on the research, the aim may be to predict outcomes of a match, deterimine the efficacy of certain sports equipment, the viability of strategies implemented by the coaches or even selecting a fantasy team. Whatever the case may be, our staff are enthusiastic about making sense of the sports world, especially those who have not won the department fantasy league competition in a while.
